GLOBE Investigation

By Jack 5th Class

Hi! Did you know that we are damaging our planet because of cars and air pollution? Well keep reading because I will tell you what we can do to help.

5th class at St. Clare’s did a project on Air Pollution. We put test tubes around our school to measure NO2 levels. After one month we sent the test tubes to be analysed in a laboratory in England.

We found out that the air pollution levels decreased compared to last year’s levels. We think this is because of Covid-19 travel restrictions and less traffic on the road.

So let’s try and keep these levels low. How can we do this? Here are some ideas:

-Use the car less.

-Try walk, school or scoot.

-Plant flowers and trees.

St. Clare’s will run this test again in 2021. We know that the levels of air pollution will reduce again because clean air is really important to us.

Together we can all make a big difference.

The Globe Project

5th Class were delighted to submit their Globe Project last week. Our class studied the air quality around our school. We researched information about different air pollutants and the impact that they have on our environment.

We were given special test tubes to measure the level of NO2 at different locations in our school: the school gate, the staff car park and the school garden. We were really surprised by our results and it is clear that the hard work of our Green School Committee and students is helping to improve the air quality around our school.

We hope that our results below will encourage everyone to be more mindful about air pollution. We are looking forward to learning more about air pollutants and continuing to keep our school as green as can be.

Engineers Week 5th Class

5th class in Room 7 have been working hard in preparation for the Globe project. We are investigating air pollution around our school. We are waiting for the results of our investigation from the research laboratory. To help us with our investigation we decided to construct a wind vane and a wind anemometer. We worked together in groups to plan and construct our chosen project. We’re looking forward to using our constructions as part of the Globe project.
