We are all big Dublin GAA supporters in Room 18. Today we made a lovely poster for the All Ireland Football Final on Sunday in Croke Park where Dublin will play Mayo for the second year in a row. Last year we got to hold the Sam Maguire cup when it came to our school. We hope we get to see it again this year! Best of luck to both teams.
Junior and senior sports awards in athletics, hurling, camogie and football were presented to students yesterday. Cormac Murphy was awarded Junior Sportsperson of the Year and Oscar Denvir was awarded Senior Sportsperson of the Year.
There’s great excitement today as the Sports Day medals are being presented to the children. Medals were presented for the; Sprint, Sack Race, Beanbag Race, Egg & Spoon Race, 3-Legged Race and the Long Distance Race. Congratulations everyone!
First class have have been working really hard over the past few weeks to master their running technique. Today they started assessing each other to make sure they ran with their arms at 90degrees, eyes looking forward, thigh perpendicular to the ground and landing on the ball of their foot.
On Wednesday 7th June the hurlers of 3rd and 4th class travelled to Dolphin Park to participate in the Kevin’s Junior Hurling School Blitz. 5 other schools competed in the competition – Saint Catherine’s, Scoil Iosagáin, Francis Street, Saint James’s and Griffith Barracks. Each and every one of the 26 St. Clare’s players performed excellently on the day, representing the school with a fantastic display of skill, determination and discipline. We were unbeaten in all 5 of our games, conceding an overall total of just 4-1. The cup was proudly carried back to Harold’s Cross. Well done boys!!
We have been doing ‘Run a Mile’ this year in Junior Infants. We have been running on Friday mornings and have been doing a great job remembering to bring our boot bags. We have great fun and Ms Shaughnessy and Ms O’Leary said we are definitely getting fitter! Here are some pictures of us doing ‘Run a Mile’ and PE.
