The Big Clean Up.

On Friday last 2nd class got to help  out with the giant cleanup operation on the school grounds. Together we took over a patch of ground and made sure that it was both litter and  weed free. We used litter pickers, shovels and brushes to complete our zone and we are really proud of our work.clean up1

Incredible Edibles – Senior Infants

This week we worked together to plant all of our seeds from Incredible Edibles! We now have such a variety of lovely fruits and vegetables growing in our garden. We sowed strawberries, potatoes, chives, lettuce, spinach and turnips. We will be busy caring for them over the coming weeks and can’t wait to watch them grow!

Eco Friendly Newspaper Bags

Take a look at our Eco friendly bags. We researched gift bags and discovered that the majority of them are made in China. We wanted to reduce the air/land and sea miles used and thereby reduce our carbon footprint by making bags of our own using old newspapers.

GLOBE Project

Our fourth and fifth classes were getting started with some cloud observations in preparation for our GLOBE project this year. GLOBE is a project run in conjunction with the EPA, An Taisce and ESERO, the European Space Agency.

The project monitors aerosols and air quality around the world. Our young scientists were practicing their skills at cloud observation and classification. They will be recording their results  online and sharing them with schools and scientists around the world.  Here you can see them hard at work.
