5th Class were delighted to submit their Globe Project last week. Our class studied the air quality around our school. We researched information about different air pollutants and the impact that they have on our environment.
We were given special test tubes to measure the level of NO2 at different locations in our school: the school gate, the staff car park and the school garden. We were really surprised by our results and it is clear that the hard work of our Green School Committee and students is helping to improve the air quality around our school.
We hope that our results below will encourage everyone to be more mindful about air pollution. We are looking forward to learning more about air pollutants and continuing to keep our school as green as can be.
Today was a very big day for our Party Bag Busters. The One Good Idea National Final Virtual Event took place on YouTube! 🎉🎊🎉
We were thrilled to win the runners up prize in the SEAI One Good Idea Competition for our Scooter Train. We had a fantastic day at the awards ceremony in Dublin castle and were amazed by all the excellent ideas from schools around the country who also presented on the day.
On Friday last 2nd class got to help out with the giant cleanup operation on the school grounds. Together we took over a patch of ground and made sure that it was both litter and weed free. We used litter pickers, shovels and brushes to complete our zone and we are really proud of our work.
This week we worked together to plant all of our seeds from Incredible Edibles! We now have such a variety of lovely fruits and vegetables growing in our garden. We sowed strawberries, potatoes, chives, lettuce, spinach and turnips. We will be busy caring for them over the coming weeks and can’t wait to watch them grow!
Well done to all the boys and girls for creating such wonderful bonnets this year! Thank you all for putting in so much effort, it was great fun showing them off at our Easter Bonnet Parade!
Happy Easter everyone!
Check out our Eco-friendly bags now on display in ‘Les Fleurs’ flower shop in Harold’s Cross. They are so easy to make, check out our video in the post below!
Check out this video we made to show you how to make Eco-friendly bags, why not get creative and make a bag to go along with your Easter Bonnet this year!
Take a look at our Eco friendly bags. We researched gift bags and discovered that the majority of them are made in China. We wanted to reduce the air/land and sea miles used and thereby reduce our carbon footprint by making bags of our own using old newspapers.
Our fourth and fifth classes were getting started with some cloud observations in preparation for our GLOBE project this year. GLOBE is a project run in conjunction with the EPA, An Taisce and ESERO, the European Space Agency.
The project monitors aerosols and air quality around the world. Our young scientists were practicing their skills at cloud observation and classification. They will be recording their results online and sharing them with schools and scientists around the world. Here you can see them hard at work.
