Great fun doing Maths activities with Elaine from AIB.
Our class are having great fun every week at the moment because we are taking part in Isak 9 workshops. Under the expert eye of our 5th class tutors we are playing games, exploring problems and picking apart puzzles. It’s great fun.
This morning in 5th class room 7, we started maths hour. During this hour, we had to move around to different stations in groups. We had four stations; maths diction, problem solving cards, tangrams and IZAK 9. In the maths diction game, one person picked a card which had something to do with maths language. For example, an angle or a decimal point. Your teammate had to guess the answer from your drawing, definition or hint. On another table, we were given maths problem cards which displayed pictures of the same object. We had to spot the odd one out. On the tangram’s table, we had sheets of paper with outlines of items and we had to construct the different items using all 7 tangrams. IZAK 9 was the last table and we had to complete 2 tasks based on algebra.
Check out the pictures from Science Week!
What a wonderful week we had! Pupils, teachers and parents all got a chance to participate in the exciting activities throughout the week.
We had great fun in fourth class today investigating friction. We tested a variety of different surfaces to see which had the most friction. We rolled a toy car down a slope and and then measured the distance it travelled on each surface.
We also created our own hovercrafts using a CD, a bottle lid and a balloon. It was great fun. We are looking forward to presenting our experiment at the science fair tomorrow.
We were very fortunate this week to attend a coding workshop in school. We learnt how to code and programme bee-bots. Take a look!
As a part of Maths Week, 5th class, Room 7 have come up with a number of word problems for all of the students in first class to solve. This morning, the two classes met and first class proved their worth as they solved over 20 word problems together.
On Friday, 5th class plan to come back with problems that are even more challenging. We can’t wait!
