This week we worked together to plant all of our seeds from Incredible Edibles! We now have such a variety of lovely fruits and vegetables growing in our garden. We sowed strawberries, potatoes, chives, lettuce, spinach and turnips. We will be busy caring for them over the coming weeks and can’t wait to watch them grow!
Today we went on a Spring Hunt around our school grounds. We worked in pairs and used a checklist to help us to spot as many signs of Spring as we could, it was so much fun!
We had great fun searching for signs of spring this morning around our beautiful school grounds. We had a checklist to complete with our partner. We found insects in the bug hotels and a frog splashed in the frog pond. We saw daffodils, crocuses, catkins and snowdrops. We saw birds returning from warmer countries and we even spotted a nest in a large tree. We were lucky to see a squirrel from our classroom window yesterday that must have awoken from hibernation.
Today we had great fun planting runner beans and dwarf beans. We were investigating how the root and shoot grow. We can’t wait to see the results.
We have been very busy in 1st class looking after our vegetable patch. The vegetables do not need water every day but they do need to be checked. We were very excited today because our seeds have really started to grow. Take a look at our pictures!
Today we began our Incredible Edibles Project! It is a healthy eating initiative for Primary School pupils. It encourages schools across the country to get busy growing carrots, lettuce, potatoes, strawberries and turnips.
We planted potatoes, lettuce seeds, carrot seeds, strawberry seeds and turnip seeds in our vegetable bed today. We had to make drills to place the seeds into and then cover the seeds over with compost. After this we watered our newly planted seeds. We will be busy bees over the next few weeks watering and taking care of our crops!
