Yesterday morning we had a lovely walk in our local park. We counted our strides for a full lap and found out there were about 700 strides altogether. Some clever minds then remembered that on average a young persons stride is about half a metre in length. They then calculated that it must be about 350 m per lap ! Smart minds and healthy bodies in 2nd class!
On Friday last 2nd class got to help out with the giant cleanup operation on the school grounds. Together we took over a patch of ground and made sure that it was both litter and weed free. We used litter pickers, shovels and brushes to complete our zone and we are really proud of our work.
Some wonderful news filtered through this morning that a girl in our class is a national champ in handwriting! We are delighted for her and can’t wait to hear all about the prize giving in the GPO in a couple of weeks time.
Our Active School Committee were out checking the Active Walkway this afternoon. We are all ready for the launch tomorrow with Prof Donal O’Shea.
As part of the Big Grow programmer we have also had the chance to plant spinach, cress and pea seeds! We are learning about how to care for and help plants to grow and observing the life cycle of a plant as our own ones grow!
This week we worked together to plant all of our seeds from Incredible Edibles! We now have such a variety of lovely fruits and vegetables growing in our garden. We sowed strawberries, potatoes, chives, lettuce, spinach and turnips. We will be busy caring for them over the coming weeks and can’t wait to watch them grow!
Remember to wear your tracksuit every day next week 23rd – 27th April.
