The second class had the privilege of visiting the Eucharistic Congress 2012 in the RDS on Wednesday the 13th of June. They had a wonderful day and really enjoyed it. The last Eucharistic congress to be held in Ireland was in 1932.
“The 50th International Eucharistic Congress 2012 is an international gathering of people that takes place every four years somewhere in the world. It aims to: promote an awareness of the central place of the Eucharist in the life and mission of the Catholic Church; help improve our understanding and celebration of the liturgy; draw attention to the social dimension of the Eucharist. These aims are achieved through a programme of pastoral preparation in the years leading up to the Congress and a programme of liturgical and cultural events, lectures and workshops, a Eucharistic Procession and the massive closing ceremony.” (Official Eucharistic Congress Website)
Mrs. Spring, Ms. Dowling and Ms. Coleman accompanied the pupils. The pupils attended a number of workshops and had the honour of meeting the first lay pupil to attend St. Clare’s Primary school. Her name was Sr. Anne Donoghue and she started in St. Clare’s in 1952! Can you calculate how many years ago that was?
